Torombo, the stage name of José Suárez, is a flamenco dancer, palmero, and teacher from Seville who began dancing at the age of seven. He grew up surrounded by artists and received his nickname from Farruco, one of the most important figures in his artistic training. From those early years, his career has remained deeply connected to rhythm, oral transmission, and a direct way of experiencing flamenco.
His presence on stage is not limited to technical execution. His dancing, clapping, and jaleos reflect a constant search for authenticity, communication, and spontaneity. This artistic personality has allowed him to build a career connected both to performance and teaching, sharing his knowledge with professionals, young talents, and people who see art as a tool for expression and personal development.
Training Alongside Great Flamenco Masters
His early years were shaped by training alongside figures such as Pepe Ríos, Isidro Vargas, Farruco, and Mario Maya. From them, he learned about movement, rhythm, and stage presence, but also about understanding flamenco as a language developed through listening, observation, and shared experience.
Farruco gave him the stage name by which he is now known. According to his published biography, the nickname refers to a storm or sudden downpour, an image closely connected to the intensity and energy of his artistic personality.
Throughout his career, Torombo has participated in important flamenco productions. He appeared in Trilogía alongside Andrés Marín and Rafael Campallo, a show presented at the 2000 Seville Flamenco Biennial that later toured extensively throughout Spain, Europe, and the United States.
He has also collaborated with numerous artists through dance, clapping, and rhythm. His ability to accompany other performers has made him a highly recognisable presence in productions where communication between the different elements of flamenco is essential.
Flamenco as Education and Transformation
An essential part of Torombo’s career is connected to teaching. He directs Proyecto Fuera de Serie, an initiative focused on training young talents and encouraging the social integration of people facing situations of exclusion or vulnerability. This work shows that his relationship with flamenco extends far beyond performance and is also rooted in passing knowledge on to others.
In this context, rhythm becomes an educational and collective tool. Learning to listen, respect other people’s timing, and participate within a group are fundamental elements both in a performance and in a learning process. His work as a teacher keeps alive a way of learning flamenco based on closeness, practice, and shared experience.

Clapping, jaleos, and accompaniment support the dance and singing, creating constant communication between all the artists.
