Juan Andrés Maya, flamenco dance with roots in the Sacromonte
Juan Andrés Heredia Maya is a flamenco dancer from Granada whose career is deeply tied to the Sacromonte and to one of the great families of flamenco. Born in Granada, he began dancing at just three years old at the Cueva de la Rocío, the venue run by his family, where he grew up surrounded by dance, cante and guitar.
His way of understanding flamenco springs from that tradition lived since childhood, but also from an extensive career on stage. Today, Juan Andrés Maya is one of the essential figures of Tablao La Carmela and its artistic director, from where he maintains a program based on rooted flamenco, stage freedom and closeness to the audience.
A life tied to flamenco dance
Juan Andrés Maya belongs to a family closely linked to the history of flamenco. His family references include names such as Mario Maya, Manolete and Juan Maya Marote, within an environment where art was part of everyday life.
After starting to dance as a child in the Sacromonte, his career soon took him beyond Granada. At only fourteen he had already traveled to Cairo to perform, beginning a professional career that would later take him to numerous stages and consolidate a personality of his own within flamenco dance.

At Tablao La Carmela, Juan Andrés Maya works as both dancer and artistic director. His vision is a fundamental part of the tablao’s identity, where established artists and new generations come together every night around cante, dance and guitar.
His artistic direction seeks to preserve the spontaneity that characterizes live flamenco: every show leaves room for dialogue between the artists, improvisation and that connection with the audience that only happens when flamenco is experienced a few meters from the stage.
