BASILIO GARCÍA
Basilio García, a life dedicated to flamenco guitar
Basilio García Clavero is a flamenco guitarist born in Madrid and raised in an environment closely tied to the world of the arts. From a young age he found in the guitar his main form of expression, beginning a professional career that would later take him to stages in many countries.
His career is especially linked to accompanying dance and cante, two disciplines that are fundamental to understanding flamenco guitar playing. Over the years he has shared the stage with some of the most important figures of the genre and has developed a way of playing built on experience, compás and direct communication with the other artists.
From Amor de Dios to his first stages
At just 14 years old, Basilio García began frequenting the old Amor de Dios studios in Madrid, one of the great historic centers for the training and transmission of flamenco. There he began learning as a guitarist accompanying dance alongside artists and maestros such as Josele, María Magdalena, La Tati, Cristóbal Reyes, Ziro, La China and Manolete.
His first professional steps soon took him outside Spain. One of his first tours took place in France with the show Flamenco Vivo, where he shared the stage with the dancer Nuria Castejón and the singer Pepe Luis Carmona, among other artists.
An international career with the flamenco guitar
Basilio García’s guitar has traveled to many international stages. Throughout his career he has taken part in shows in countries such as Mexico, Switzerland, Italy, China, the Netherlands, Belgium, Japan, Venezuela and England, as well as performing in New York and touring different Spanish stages.
This international experience has allowed him to accompany very different flamenco productions and to adapt to different dancers, singers and stage formats. His guitar always plays a fundamental role: listening to what happens on the boards and building, through the playing, the dialogue with the rest of the cuadro flamenco.
Alongside great figures of flamenco
Throughout his career, Basilio García has shared the stage with artists such as Farruquito, Manuela Carrasco, Antonio Canales, Joaquín Cortés, Juana Amaya and Adrián Gália, among other names in flamenco dance.
His artistic relationship with Juan Andrés Maya also holds a prominent place in his career. Basilio was part of his company and took part in the audiovisual works Furia Amaya and Varón de Dolores, touring different theaters in Spain with the Granada dancer.
That artistic bond connects directly with Tablao La Carmela, whose artistic direction is led precisely by Juan Andrés Maya.
Author, composer and flamenco creator
Basilio García’s career is not limited to performing on stage. He has also developed a side as an author and composer, collaborating on recordings and musical projects for different artists.
His career has also received various recognitions linked to the world of music and flamenco, including prizes in music and choreography competitions and other awards related to his artistic career.
This creative side broadens his understanding of the guitar: not only as an instrument of accompaniment, but also as a tool to create, compose and build new proposals within flamenco.
Basilio García at Tablao La Carmela
Basilio García is one of the artists of Tablao La Carmela and currently appears regularly in the tablao’s program as a guitarist. In September 2026 he is listed in numerous shows alongside guitarists such as Juan Jiménez and Iván Losada, accompanying different cuadros of dance and cante.
In a tablao, the guitar plays an essential role. The guitarist must accompany the cante, respond to the dance and constantly adapt his playing to what is happening on stage. That capacity for dialogue makes every performance a different piece.

The guitar as dialogue within flamenco
Decades of work alongside dancers and singers have made accompaniment a central part of Basilio García’s career. In flamenco, guitar, cante and baile do not work independently: each artist listens to the others and changes their interpretation according to what is happening at that precise moment.
This spontaneity takes on special importance in a space like Tablao La Carmela, where the closeness between artists and audience makes it possible to perceive every rasgueo, every change of compás and every response among guitar, dance and cante.
Basilio García’s experience and international career thus find in the tablao a space where flamenco tradition continues to be built every night on stage.
