POL VAQUERO
Pol Vaquero, a career between the Ballet Nacional and the tablao
Pol Vaquero was born in Córdoba and began his dance studies at ten years old at the Real Conservatorio in his city. His training covered classical, contemporary and Spanish dance and flamenco, creating an especially broad technical foundation.
At sixteen he began his professional career in Antonio Canales’ company with Torero and later took part in other works by the choreographer. From that moment he started a journey that would take him through some of the most prominent companies and projects in Spanish dance and flamenco.
Companies, tours and his own creation
In 1998 he danced as a soloist in works such as Medea, Galaica and Ritmos with the Ballet Nacional de España. A year later he joined Vicente Amigo’s company and toured Japan, Portugal, Israel and Spain. He also worked with Joaquín Grilo and later returned to Antonio Canales’ company.
Between 2004 and 2006 he returned to the Ballet Nacional de España as a soloist and principal dancer. In 2007 he premiered his own show, Antojo, and has since continued working as a performer, choreographer and teacher on national and international projects.
Pol Vaquero at Tablao La Carmela
His experience in large companies brings solid stage discipline, but the tablao also demands an immediate relationship with improvisation and with the other artists. That combination makes live performance an especially complete space for a dancer.
At Tablao La Carmela, Pol Vaquero can bring his repertoire experience into an intimate format, in which every cierre and every llamada is built together with the cante and the guitar.
From choreographic discipline to the freedom of live performance
Pol Vaquero’s career lets us see two complementary dimensions of flamenco dance: the precision of great productions and the spontaneity of the tablao.
His career has developed over decades between the two, accumulating an experience reflected in dance of craft, musical knowledge and stage presence.
