KELIAN JIMÉNEZ

Kelián Jiménez, compás, music and personality in dance

Kelián Jiménez was born in Madrid in 1979 into a family of musicians linked to flamenco guitar and to the Caño Roto scene. This relationship with music from childhood has shaped a particular way of approaching dance, in which knowledge of the guitar and of composition holds an important place.

His training began with maestros such as Manolete, El Güito, La China, María Magdalena, Antonio Canales and Adrián Galia. He also explored contemporary dance with Teresa Nieto and Lola Greco, expanding the resources of a language always built on a flamenco foundation.

A career begun at a very young age

He made his debut at just twelve years old at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Carmen, by Rafael Aguilar’s company. Later he worked for several years in Antonio Canales’ company, taking part in productions such as Torero, Narciso, La Cenicienta, La casa de Bernarda Alba, Raíz and Gitano.

Over time he has accumulated decades of experience in theaters and tablaos. In 2025 he presented Gipsy Dream. Todos somos Chaplin at Suma Flamenca, a project that brings together dance, music and identity and also shows his maturity as a creator.

His knowledge of the guitar makes the relationship between movement and music especially close. In the tablao, this sensitivity lets him respond to accents, silences and changes of intention with a naturalness that comes from musical understanding.

At Tablao La Carmela, his dance is part of a format based on immediate communication, where improvisation and compás are as important as technique.

Thirty years on stage

After decades of work, Kelián Jiménez has developed a recognizable personality that combines roots, experience and freedom. His dance keeps a direct relationship with the flamenco learned in Madrid and with the musical environment in which he grew up.

That career makes every performance the result of many years of stage work, study and dialogue with singers, guitarists and dancers.
