Ileana Gómez, international passion for flamenco dance
Ileana Gómez is an American dancer who has built her professional career around flamenco. Her training began in the United States, at the Conservatorio Flamenco de Albuquerque, and continued in Seville and Madrid, where she broadened her studies at the renowned Amor de Dios school.
Along the way she has learned from figures such as Juana Amaya, Farruquito, Carmen Ledesma, Alfonso Losa and José Maya, developing a way of dancing based on respect for tradition, technique and an intense stage presence.
From the United States to flamenco stages in Spain
Ileana Gómez’s career represents an unusual connection between academic training and direct learning within the flamenco world. In 2010 she became the first student in the United States to earn a master’s degree in dance with a specialization in flamenco, a particularly significant step in her artistic career.
Her dance has also taken her to international stages and festivals such as the Joyce Theater in New York, the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and the Albuquerque Flamenco Festival. In 2018 she also received an award at the Concurso Nacional de Baile por Alegrías «La Perla».

Ileana Gómez’s career has been built through years of training and living with flamenco in different parts of the world. After studying in the United States, Seville and Madrid, she has managed to develop her professional activity in Spain and to perform regularly in Madrid tablaos.
Her path reflects how flamenco can transcend its place of origin without losing respect for its codes and its tradition. On the stage of Tablao La Carmela, that experience is transformed into a close and expressive dance, in constant dialogue with the cante, the guitar and the other artists.
