CHELO PANTOJA
Chelo Pantoja, a voice from Jerez at the service of dance
Chelo Pantoja was born in Jerez de la Frontera in 1975 into a family of artists. Her first steps took place in peñas, fairs and flamenco gatherings and, at just fourteen, she began working professionally as a singer.
Her voice soon caught the attention of leading figures. In her youth she took part in tours and, after moving to Madrid, began singing at the tablao Zambra, a decisive period in consolidating her specialization in accompanying dance.
From Jerez to the great companies
In Madrid she was called on by dancers such as El Güito, Manolete and Rafael Aguilar. Later she became a singer with the companies of Antonio Canales, Joaquín Cortés and Sara Baras, taking her voice to important theaters and international stages.
She has also taken part in recordings and musical collaborations and has developed a teaching side linked to the transmission of cante. This combination of stage and teaching sums up a career grounded in decades of experience.
Chelo Pantoja at Tablao La Carmela
Cante para baile requires a deep knowledge of flamenco structures and, at the same time, the ability to read the dancer at every instant. It is a craft built with listening, intuition and many hours on stage.
At Tablao La Carmela, Chelo Pantoja brings precisely that experience. Her voice is part of the dialogue that sustains the show and follows the changes of intensity, the llamadas and the cierres that occur during the dance.
A singer formed in live performance
Chelo Pantoja’s career is deeply tied to work on stage. From the first tablaos to the great companies, her cante has developed in constant contact with dancers, guitarists and other singers.
That experience is felt especially in the intimate format of the tablao, where every nuance of the voice reaches the audience directly.
