AMADOR ROJAS

Amador Rojas, freedom and personality in flamenco dance

Amador Rojas was born in Los Palacios, Seville, and began dancing at the age of seven under the guidance of the maestro Farruco. From a young age he showed an intense relationship with the stage and, before reaching adulthood, had already started a professional career that would lead him to work with some of the most prominent figures in flamenco.

His dance is recognized for a very marked stage personality and a constant search for freedom within the flamenco language. Technique, expressiveness and a personal way of inhabiting the stage come together in a career spanning companies, his own shows and international tours.

From Farruco to an international career

At sixteen he began his international career, passing through companies such as those of Salvador Távora, Eva Yerbabuena and Antonio Canales. Along the way he also shared experiences and the stage with fundamental artists and families of flamenco, including Manuela Carrasco, Juan Amaya and the Morente family.

With his own company he went on to develop personal projects. His work has received recognition such as the Premio Artista Revelación at the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla in 2008, La Venencia Flamenca in 2009 and The Golden Lyre Musicianship Award in 2010.

Amador Rojas at Tablao La Carmela

The tablao offers an especially fitting setting for a dancer with such a defined personality. Proximity to the audience makes it possible to feel the intensity of the movement, the sound of the zapateado and the shifts in energy that arise from the dialogue with the cante and the guitar.

At Tablao La Carmela, the dance is presented without the need for great artifice: the focus is on the artist and on the ability to turn compás and emotion into an immediate experience.

An open and personal flamenco

Amador Rojas has developed a career in which respect for the roots coexists with a willingness to explore new forms of expression. His own projects have shown a constant interest in widening the territory of dance without breaking the bond with flamenco.

This combination of tradition, character and creative freedom defines a career that continues to grow on stage and in the search for an artistic voice of his own.
