VERO LA INDIA

Vero la India, the strength of the Sacromonte brought to dance

Verónica Fernández Bustamante, known artistically as Vero la India, was born into a Romani family of the Sacromonte in Granada with several generations linked to the art of flamenco. Her relationship with dance began at a very young age in an environment where flamenco is part of the identity of the neighborhood and of family life.

She took her first steps at the age of seven in different caves of the Sacromonte, including Los Tarantos, Venta del Gallo and the Cueva de la Rocío. There she grew up in direct contact with the stage and with a way of passing on flamenco based on coexistence and practice.

Training and first stages

During her training she worked with figures such as Mario Maya, Belén Maya, Juan Andrés Maya, Juana Maya and Manuel Liñán. At fifteen she began taking part in national and international festivals and went on to build a career tied both to Granada and to other flamenco circuits.

She has presented her own show Sonakay at the Festival de Otoño de Granada, has taken part in the Veranos del Corral and has been part of Juan Andrés Maya’s company on several occasions. She has also worked as a guest artist in tablaos such as Casa Patas and El Cordobés.

Vero la India at Tablao La Carmela

The tablao connects naturally with her way of understanding flamenco. Closeness to the audience and the freedom of a live performance recall the character of the caves and spaces where she began to dance.

At Tablao La Carmela, her presence brings a direct relationship with the Sacromonte and an interpretation in which compás, gesture and stage energy take center stage.

Dance with Granada roots

Vero la India has been described as a dancer of strong personality, with intense expression and a stage presence especially tied to her roots. Her dance springs from the tradition of the Sacromonte, but develops from a voice of her own.

This combination of family memory, training and professional experience lets her flamenco keep the feeling of something lived, passed on and transformed on stage.
