LA LUPI

La Lupi, personality and mastery in flamenco dance

Susana Lupiáñez Pinto, known artistically as La Lupi, is a dancer and choreographer from Málaga recognized for her interpretive strength, her technical command and a very personal way of understanding flamenco. Born in Málaga, she completed her studies at the city’s Conservatorio Superior de Danza with the highest grade, combining her training from a very young age with her first experiences on stage.

Her career combines tradition, creation and teaching. Over the years she has developed a language of her own within flamenco dance, maintaining a constant connection with her roots and taking her art to national and international theaters and festivals.

From Málaga to the great stages of flamenco

One of the decisive moments of her career came when the guitarist Juan Maya Marote saw her dance and decided to bring her to Madrid. There she worked for several years in his Compañía de Danza y Flamenco Contemporáneo alongside Ángeles Arranz, taking part in tours throughout Spain.

In 1999 she founded the Compañía Flamenca La Lupi, from which she began to direct, choreograph and star in her own shows. Among her most notable works are RETOrno, Cartas a Pastora, Mudanza, La Paula, Lenguaje Oculto and Épicus. She has also collaborated with leading institutions and artists such as the Ballet Nacional de España and Miguel Poveda.

La Lupi at Tablao La Carmela

La Lupi is one of the artists linked to Tablao La Carmela, where she shares the stage with some of the most relevant figures in flamenco today. Her presence fits the philosophy of the tablao: bringing the audience closer to artists with an identity of their own and a career deeply tied to flamenco.

You can get to know the other performers who take our stage in the Artists section and check the Program to find out who performs each day. If you want to experience the show live, you can also buy your tickets.

A dancer with a language of her own

La Lupi’s dance stands out for combining technical knowledge, expressiveness and respect for the roots of flamenco. That personal stamp has also taken her into choreography: the Ballet Nacional de España commissioned her to create the tangos La Fonda de Carmencita for the show Zaguán, a sign of her standing within the profession.

Her artistic side is joined by important work as a teacher. Throughout her career she has taught in different countries, passing on her way of understanding dance to new generations of artists. At Tablao La Carmela, that experience is transformed into a flamenco that is close, alive and deeply expressive.
